Liquor licensing for entertainment venues

NSW has recently seen a new Liquor Act introduced from July 2008, with important changes for live music and the hospitality industry. This page has references to specific aspects of the new laws related to live music and entertainment, links to the NSW office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, as well as a brief discussion of renewals issues, noise complaints process and options for minors in licensed entertainment venues where entertainment is hosted.

Planning and Local Government

In New South Wales, approvals and building compliance for live music and entertainment are assessed under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act. In 2008 this process is undergoing a complete rewrite.

Noise and Environmental Protection

New South Wales publishes a guide for local government under environmental protection legislation. There are also noise and amenity implications for venues and residents under liquor and planning regulations.
